Sudan, is a country in Northeast Africa. It shares borders with the Central African Republic to the southwest, Chad to the west and Egypt to the north. Sudan was the largest country in Africa prior to the secession of South Sudan in 2011. It is now the third largest, after Algeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sudan lost most of its oil reserves, estimated to be between five and seven billion barrels, when South Sudan succeeded. Sudan is known for producing cotton, peanuts (groundnuts), sesame, gum arabic, sorghum, and sugarcane.
