We’ve set aside some of our lovely rooms, with special pricing, for stays of 28 days or longer during September to May. Imagine starting every day with a peaceful stroll to the lake and then settling down to connect to the world with our high-speed fibre internet connection in our lovely course building “Fridhem”. Fridhem was built in 1890 and has been gently renovated to preserve its charm, while at the same time using eco-friendly power and gardening systems as well as a state of the art gigabit Internet connection to “live lightly”. Fridhem is based in the beautiful village of Stjärnsund, Dalarna approximately 200 km northwest of Stockholm. Stjärnsund is known for its rich history of creativity and progressive thinking stretching back to 1700, and was the home of one of Sweden’s best known inventors – Christopher Polhem. If you’d like to connect with other people it’s good to know that Fridhem is a course centre and hostel focusing on events such as yoga, qi gong, dance as well as nature related courses such as forest gardening and permaculture. So there’s always something interesting happening here! Accommodation Each bedroom has 2 single beds a work desk and chair a window onto the garden shared access to showers and toilets Our newly renovated co-living kitchen has 2 induction cookers, an oven, a microwave and lots of refrigerator / freezer space as well as all the utensils and equipment needed to prepare meals. We have a fully equipped laundry room you can use. Work and Play Our dining room / social space available for co-working. It’s a great place to meet fellow community co-workers in front of the open fire and share a “fika” (coffee break). We have >900 mb WiFi 6 and a colour laser printer as well as a “quiet work space” upstairs in the large hall outside the co-worker bedrooms. We also have a course room with an HD data projector and screen for presentations. One of our team is an IT consultant with an extensive computing and WordPress background and he is available for support by agreement. There is a sauna and gym nearby that can be used for a modest fee, as well lots of outdoor sports activities such as skating, cross-country skiing, hiking and canoeing / kayaking on the large lakes just a few minutes walk away. In the autumn the woods are full of mushrooms and berries. There are regular yoga and dance sessions as well as other community activities that you’re welcome to join (again often for a modest fee or some volunteer input). Practical info Getting here Stjärnsund is 25 km from the train station in Hedemora. Hedemora is on the main line to Stockholm (2hrs) and the train stops at Arlanda airport (90 mins). We can arrange for you to be picked up in Hedemora. Shopping etc. There is a fully-equipped country store in Stjärnsund just a few minutes work from Fridhem that is also a parcel delivery / pickup point. There’s always someone you can get a ride with if you need to go shopping in Hedemora at the supermarket and/or chemist Weather It can be quite cold in the winter here (down to -20C) so good warm weather gear is important (including boots).
