Digital Nomad Guide: Gibraltar
Gibraltar, long referred to as the "key to the Mediterranean," was taken over by the British during the War of Spanish Succession in 1713 and has been a British Overseas Territory ever since. The "Rock of Gibraltar," as it is still frequently called, rises out of the sea on the east side of Algeciras Bay, close to the southern point of the Iberian peninsula, and looks out over one of the busiest shipping routes in the world. It is connected to mainland Spain by a tiny isthmus. On the western side of the Rock is where the town of Gibraltar is located. Given its closeness to Spain—you could practically throw a stone from one to the other—Gibraltar is often simple to reach from the mainland by bus or even on foot, and the port is a popular stop for cruise liners. Gibraltar surely has more than its fair share of tourist attractions for such a little nation—it only has a surface area of four square kilometres.
